8.5/10

Meridian 157: Chapter 2 is the second episode of a point-and-click mystery series. Meteorologist David Zander is now trapped underground on a forgotten island, and the focus shifts from investigating to surviving. It suits solo players who enjoy slow, first-person puzzle exploration with a light horror edge, ideally after trying the free prologue.

About 95% of its 123 Steam reviews are positive. Steam tags put adventure, puzzle, hidden object and investigation on top, with horror and thriller further down, so expect searching scenes and combining items more than scares. One player calls the series puzzle exploration done right and mellow fun. This chapter adds an item-combine feature, a hint system for the hardest riddles and a colour-blind mode.

As one episode in a longer series, it works best played in order, and it ends on a continuing storyline rather than a full resolution. Review texts are scarce, so the high score rests mostly on the summary numbers. Players suggest picking up the whole series on sale; that is the best way in.

Pros

  • Underground island setting raises the stakes from Chapter 1
  • Item-combine puzzles with a hint system for the hardest riddles
  • Colour-blind mode for colour-based puzzles

Cons

  • One episode of a serial story, best played in order
  • Few detailed player reviews to judge it by
